Giovanni from Pokemon

"Do you want to find out what 'or else' means?"

"I want rare Pokémon, not your pathetic excuses!"

"Just do your job for a change!"

"You really have changed. The Delia I knew would never be so mean!"

"NO! Team Rocket is evil!! EVIL!"

"I'm not mad. A little angry, maybe..." -Giovanni's Quotes from Pokémon.

"I see that you raise Pokémon with utmost care. A child like you would never understand what I hope to achieve. I shall step aside this time! I hope we meet again..."

Giovanni (Giovanni in English; Sakaki in Japanese) is the leader of Team Rocket, Team Rainbow Rocket (alternate version), and the Viridian City Gym Leader, responsible for awarding the Earth Badge to Trainers who defeat him. He specializes in Ground-type Pokémon. He is a very ambitious individual who desires to control the world using Pokémon through the organization he runs. He is also the father of Silver, a rival in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Giovanni is only known in the first generation, as the sole and undisputed leader of Team Rocket. He is the strongest of the Gym Leaders, and you face him three times during the game, where you disrupt different scenarios: the base beneath the Celadon City Casino, the takeover of Silph Co. in Saffron City, and the final battle at the Viridian City Gym. This is how you encounter his Pokémon in three different stages. After defeating him, he disappears, never to be seen again. However, in Pokémon Generations, it is revealed that he plans to revive Team Rocket to seize control of all Pokémon.

In the second generation, Team Rocket, through its executives, attempts to contact Giovanni via radio signals from Goldenrod City, but they are never successful.

In the fourth generation, he is only battled once, in a cave within Tohjo Falls, during the Celebi event.

Nothing more is heard of him until Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, where he participates in the Pokémon World Tournament.

An alternate version of Giovanni appears in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, where he is the leader of Team Rainbow Rocket, an organization based on the disbanded Team Rocket and comprised of villainous leaders from other organizations. This Giovanni is capable of traveling between universes and managed to capture Mewtwo and recreate his organization in his own.

Giovanni, in the anime, is the leader of Team Rocket and has been present since the beginning. He always has his Persian by his side, who hates Jessie and James's companion, Meowth. He is the son of Madame Boss (the founder of Team Rocket). He loved his mother very much because he found her beautiful, perhaps because of this, he decided to continue her research on Mew and create the most powerful Pokémon of all, although he failed when Mewtwo ran away after realizing he was being used instead of being his friend.

Giovanni appears in episode PO03: Giovanni of the Pokémon Origins special. He is the leader of the evil organization Team Rocket, which Red must confront. He is also the Gym Leader of Viridian City. When he watches Red fight, he is moved and remembers when he was young and didn't use Pokémon as tools. Red defeats him, but Giovanni refuses the Earth Badge because he is a criminal. At this moment, Giovanni reflects and disbands Team Rocket, at which point Red accepts the badge. Giovanni then decides to start over with his Pokémon as his friends.

Giovanni appears in the Pokémon Generations miniseries episode "The Pursuit." He is seen on a hill in Viridian City watching as the Interpol raids his Pokémon Gym. Before leaving, he declares that he will ensure Team Rocket never falls and that all Pokémon will be his.

In the episode "The Legacy," Giovanni appears in a flashback. Handsome is interrogating Silver to obtain any information about Giovanni's whereabouts. However, Silver only states that the last time he saw him was three years ago, when Giovanni argued with his son before leaving to create a more powerful organization.

Giovanni appears as the main antagonist in the Pocket Monsters Zensho manga. Similar to his video game counterpart, he clashes with Ash several times throughout the manga, after seeing Ash interfering with his plans. When Ash finally defeats him in his gym, Giovanni reveals that he founded Team Rocket after his Nidoking abandoned him when it became trapped under falling rocks in a cave, causing him to lose faith in friendship and love for Pokémon. It is then that Mr. Fuji gives him Nidoking's horn, revealing that his Pokémon actually died, warning them where to find it so they could save its life. Having discovered this and deeply remorseful, Giovanni gives Ash the Earth Badge and permanently disbands Team Rocket, leaving the gym never to return.

In the Pocket Monsters Special manga, from his first battle against Red, he realizes that Red can ruin his plans, and therefore harbors a deep resentment towards him. After being defeated by Red at the Viridian City Gym, he begins to understand how a child has managed to defeat Team Rocket so many times and leaves to find his lost son (who would be Silver) and reflect on what is right and wrong, also because he suffers from a heart condition.

In the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga, Team Rocket is led by a pair of twin brothers with the same name, known as the "Giovanni Brothers" (Giovanni Brothers in English, Sakaki Brothers in Japanese). The Giovanni from the video games is the older twin. The younger twin debuts first, in PPM009, where he runs Rocket Casino. The older twin debuts later in PPM011, after taking control of Silph Co.

Yes, here he is. After a long time, some will remember him as the leader of Team Rocket, others as a worthy challenger for facing Red on several occasions. Some see him as a great antagonist. What can I say? He truly is a great and well-rounded antagonist. Here's Giovanni from Pokémon! Enjoy!
